The shape characteristics and design ideas of female seats in different period of China are researched, in order to provide thinking and inspiration for the design of modern female seats which have national characteristics and cultural features. Through research on the female chairs showed in historical data such as literature books, paintings, relics etc., it combs the shape evolution and excavates the design ideas from the aspects of shape, function, and scale. The common shape of ancient Chinese female seats in the period of short term, interim, high term and meridian is researched. The enslavement thought are refined. Ornamentation and function are suited each other in the female seats' design. On the basis, the design practice is made from the prototype of ancient garden stool.
