Abstract

To analyze the influence of outer corrugated paperboard on the overall cushioning properties. Comparative tests were designed for EPE and EPE/corrugated paperboard under three equivalent heights of 400, 600, 750 mm, and the dynamic compressive residual strain and change rate of maximum acceleration were measured. And then the stress-strain curves, maximum acceleration-static stress curves and cushion coefficient-maximum static stress curves were drawn. The cushioning performance of EPE/corrugated paperboard was better than that of EPE alone; the maximum acceleration value of EPE/corrugated paperboard averagely decreased by about 5%~13% of that of EPE alone; the cushion coefficient was decreased by 2%~10%; and the optimal bearing capacity of extreme point for EPE/corrugated paperboard was increased by 20%. The cushioning performance of EPE/corrugated paperboard was significantly strengthened. It is critical to consider the positive effect of corrugated paperboard in outer package.
