Abstract

On the basis of the theories and techniques pertinent to dynamics of package cushioning design, the optimal thickness of the new environment friendly paper honeycomb sandwich panel was analyzed in this paper. Through flat compression test, bending test, impact resistance test and single-point hanging test, the mechanical properties of the honeycomb paperboard were analyzed. In the flat crush test, the collapsing process showed the phenomenon of sequential occurrence, and the pressure-displacement curves were featured by the double-peak shape. When pressure was applied in the middle of the composite material, it could reach a value up to 75% of the gravity of the panel itself. The honeycomb panel with a thickness of 70 mm to 110 mm could tolerate the flexible shock of 30 kg (for shock height of 500 mm), thus meeting the standards of wall impact performance. The damage to the panels with a thickness of less than 90 mm was attributable to the slight collapse of the plaster panels around the hole. The mechanical properties of the wall panels with a thickness exceeding 90 mm were good. 90 mm was the optimal thickness of the paper honeycomb sandwiched wall panels.
