Abstract

Objective The deinking experiments of waste newsprint with biological enzymes were conducted to evaluate the effects of enzymes deinking and to improve the regeneration quality of waste paper. Methods A newsprint enzyme deinking process was established and the deinking samples were prepared. The quality of the deinking process was evaluated by whiteness and residual ink area percentage. The effects of different enzymes on the deinking quality of newsprint were investigated with one-component and two-component enzyme preparations. Results The results showed that the best one-component enzyme preparation for deinking was lipase, with a whiteness of 55.33% and a residual ink area percentage of 2.11%; results of the two-component enzyme preparations showed that the cellulase and lipase mixture had the best performance with a whiteness of 55.69% and a residual ink area percentage of 1.85%. Conclusion The three enzymes could all remove ink from waste newsprint and the deinking effects were enhanced when mixed.
