Abstract

Objective Objective Numerical simulation method and mechanical behaviors of hexagonal honeycombs cores are investigated under the out- of- plane quasi- static compression loadings. Methods A finite element ( FE) model and analysis methodology of hexagonal honeycomb cores with single or double cell walls were framed based on the honeycomb cell array. Results The FE calculated deformation modes, deformation curves and values of quasi-static plateau stresses are presented in the forms of diagrams, compressive force-displacement curves and data tables for many hexagonal honeycomb cores with different configuration parameters, which are consistent with the existing experimental and theoretical calculated results. Conclusion It is shown that the proposed FE analysis methodology is reliable.
