Abstract

An analytical method based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) tech-niques was developed for determination of benzophenone and 4-methylbenzophenone photoini-tiators in printing inks used for food packaging materials. The test samples were extracted from selected food packaging materials using oscillating extraction and ultrasonic assisted extraction with n-Hexane as the extraction solvent, and the extracts was analyzed by GC-MS. The results showed that the linearity range of the method is 0.02~0.1 mg/mL and the limits of detection for benzophenone and 4-methylbenzophenone are 0.004 mg/mL and 0.005 mg/mL; the average re-coveries of the three adding levels(0.01, 0.02, 0.10 mg/mL) are 88.2%~114.5%, with the relative standard deviations(n=6)of 5.13%~7.95%. It was concluded that the method is simple and rapid, which is applicable for routine determination of food packaging materials.
