Phthalates from plastic packaging was determined with gas chromatographic separation and mass spectrometric detection（GC-MS） method. Two different extraction solvents, normal hexane and methylene chloride were compared. The influence of extraction methods and time on the extraction of 16 different phthalates was discussed. Phthalates in plastic packaging were extracted with hexane and transferred to capillary column for GC-MS in selective ion monitoring mode(SIM). The method is simple, efficient, accurate and suitable for determination of phthalates in plastic packaging.
