Abstract

To address the tipping misalignment of composite cigarettes caused by inappropriate compression of the starter rail, the work aims to improve the tipping synchronization of materials by optimizing the structure of the starter rail, so as to suppress forming defects and enhance product quality. An optimization method focusing on motion synchronization was proposed. The key parameters, including the radial elastic modulus and the friction coefficients of the materials were determined by combining Hertz contact theory, friction tests, and rigid-flexible coupling analysis. The motion behavior during tipping under various rotational speed (60-200 r/min) was then simulated with the LS-DYNA explicit dynamics code. The simulation results indicated that downwardly offsetting the tobacco core segment's contact profile on the starter rail by 0.1 mm optimally improved synchronization, and thus this was determined as the final optimization scheme. At 200 r/min, the optimized starter rail reduced the maximum inter-segment spacing from 0.39 mm to 0.04 mm, achieving a reduction of 89.7% and demonstrating a significant improvement in motion synchronization. The proposed method effectively optimizes the tipping process and suppresses the misalignment, providing a direct theoretical foundation for determining the critical design parameters of the starter rail.
