Review of Research on Task Allocation Optimization of Shuttle-based Storage and Retrieval System

Abstract

The work aims to provide a comprehensive examination of task allocation in shuttle-based storage and retrieval systems (SBS/RS) to address key challenges like inadequate equipment coordination and low operational efficiency in warehouse scheduling, so as to meet the demands of rational task allocation in SBS/RS. Through an extensive literature review, and with focuses on relevant literature from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Web of Science published after 2020, the structure and operational features, the formulation of task allocation models, and the optimization algorithms of SBS/RS were all investigated. Future development tendencies were also discussed. Although substantial progress has been made in task allocation research of SBS/RS, existing studies still have shortcomings, including low utilization of equipment parallelism and insufficient consideration of dynamic and stochastic events. With the rapid growth of the warehousing and logistics industry, demands for operational flexibility and efficiency will continue to rise. Further in-depth research into task allocation optimization of SBS/RS will provide essential theoretical foundations and technical pathways for reducing logistics costs.
