Surface Microstructures and Printing Color Reproduction Performance of Laser Paper

Abstract

The work aims to systematically compare the differences in periodic micro/nano structures on the surfaces of different types of laser paper and reveal their impact on paper surface characteristics and printing color reproduction performance, to provide a basis for the rational selection and printing process optimization of laser paper. Regarding three typical types of laser paper, namely rainbow beam laser paper, platinum beam laser paper, and platinum matte beam laser paper, ordinary copperplate paper was used as a control. The surface micro structures of the above paper were observed and analyzed with a metallographic microscope and a laser confocal microscope. At the same time, the surface characteristics such as smoothness, glossiness, and roughness were tested and compared. Printing samples were used to test the ink density, thereby calculating the color deviation, grayscale, and color rendering efficiency. GATF circular color gamut maps were drawn to analyze the color reproduction performance of laser paper with different micro structures. The experimental results showed that laser paper with different micro structures had different effects on light reflection, diffraction, etc., and had different manifestations in color cast, grayscale, and color rendering efficiency, which affected the color reproduction ability. Through systematic comparison on the surface micro structure, surface characteristics, and printing color reproduction performance of three typical laser paper and copperplate paper, it is revealed that the differences in surface micro structure and optical effects of laser paper are the main reasons for surface performance changes, reduced printing color gamut, and increased color cast. This can provide a theoretical reference for the laser anti-counterfeiting industry.
