Value and Warmth: A Study on Packaging of Healthy and Nutritional Foods for the Elderly Based on Elderly-oriented Design

Abstract

The work aims to construct a "value-warmth" dual-dimensional framework that systematically addresses functional deficiencies and emotional disconnects in the packaging design of healthy and nutritional foods for the elderly. The study was conducted based on the analysis of physical packaging samples of commercially available healthy and nutritional foods for the elderly and the valid user questionnaires collected, in combination with a summary of current mainstream design cases. Through the measurement of physical indicators such as opening convenience and information recognition clarity, along with statistical analysis of questionnaire data, this research systematically investigated the functional pain points and emotional needs in using packaging of healthy and nutritional foods for the elderly. Through integrative analysis, this study established a rational cornerstone integrating functional, social, and ethical values, while innovatively proposing a "value-warmth" dual-helix collaborative pathway via temperature infusion routes encompassing emotional experience, cultural resonance, and stable companionship. In conclusion, this research provides a systematic theoretical framework for elderly-oriented packaging design, achieving dynamic coupling and measurable balance between functional value (safety, usability, intelligence) and emotional warmth (dignity, empathy, companionship) within a unified design architecture. The paradigm offers an implementable and scalable methodology for transitioning the silver economy from quantitative expansion to qualitative improvement, holding paradigm-leading significance for elderly-oriented packaging research in the domain of healthy and nutritional foods for the elderly.
