Determination of BPA, BPF and BPS in Recycled PET Pellets by Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract

The work aims to develop a dissolution-precipitation-LC-MS/MS method for determination of bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), and bisphenol F (BPF) residues in recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) pellets and apply it in actual sample detection. After dissolving rPET samples in hexafluoroisopropanol followed by polymer precipitation using methanol, with the resulting supernatant being concentrated, filtered, and analyzed by LC-MS/MS using external standard quantification. Validation studies demonstrated excellent linearity (r²>0.995) with method detection and quantification limits of 0.01 mg/kg and 0.050 0 mg/kg, respectively. The method showed satisfactory accuracy with spiked recovery rates of 90.7%-109% and high precision (RSD≤2.8%). It showed that the residue detection method had good reproducibility and reliability. The established detection method can be used in practical work to evaluate the residual levels of bisphenol substances in rPET pellets.
