Abstract

The work aims to investigate the finite element calculation of edge compression strength of corrugated paper fiberboard using the MAT274 paper constitutive model in LS-DYNA, and validate the model's reliability through comparison between theoretical and experimental results. A finite element model for the calculation of edge compression strength of corrugated paper fiberboard was established using ANSYS and LS-PREPOST software, according to the standard for edge compression strength testing of corrugated paper fiberboard. The edge compression strengths were also obtained through edge compression strength tests, Li's simplified formula, and Garbowski's modified empirical formula. A comparative analysis of the results was conducted to verify the reliability of the finite element model. For the corrugated paper fiberboard with B, C flute types, the compression process, compression curves, and edge crush strengths were obtained according to the above methods. The agreement of deformation modes and compression curves of the specimens during compression, as well as the theoretical, experimental, and simulated values of edge compression strengths, verifies the reliability of the finite element model. This provides important references and guidance for the design and application of corrugated paper fiberboard.
