Abstract

The work aims to conduct carbon footprint accounting research on palletized unit implements, which are the key logistics appliances to ensure efficient logistics operations, so as to promote the development of green logistics and achive the carbon (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality)" goals. The research on carbon footprint accounting of the aluminum alloy pallet unit box of a pallet rental company was based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. Carbon footprint accounting was carried out for the six stages of the pallet unit box's life cycle. It was found that the carbon footprint values of the use stage and the raw material production stage accounted for a very large proportion, while the carbon footprint value of the recycling stage was negative. The results revealed the inherent properties of carbon footprint of palletized unit implements which was characterized by their wide application and extensive mobility. For the aim of carbon reduction and emission reduction, proposals such as recycling and reuse of the waste pallet unit boxes, lightweight design, and innovations on the usage mode of pallet unit boxes were put forward. The proposals were verified by the lifecycle carbon footprint of the pallet unit box itself and also on its carbon footprint of goods turnover. It is proved that recycling and reuse, lightweight design, and the introduction of usage mode of dynamic recycling are efficient measures to achieve carbon reduction and emission reduction in the life cycle of pallet unit boxes. The research provides a theoretical basis for palletized unit implements to adapt to the development of green logistics under the circular economy.
