Abstract

Deep eutectic polymers (DEPs) have the properties of green, designability and biocompatibility. The work aims to prepare polymer composite binders with good mechanical, thermal and electrochemical properties by blending lignin to explore their applications in electrode coatings for new energy batteries. The synthesized polymerizable deep eutectic solvent (PDES) monomer was used as the substrate, and lignin of different mass fractions was blended to obtain PDES monomer/lignin composites of different ratios, and DEPs/lignin composite binders were prepared by heat-initiated polymerization, and the composite binders were analyzed in terms of their structure, mechanical properties, thermal properties, surface morphology. The electrochemical properties were investigated for lithium-ion battery applications. The experiment showed that the DEPs/lignin composite binder prepared with betaine monohydrate (Btm)-acrylic acid (AA) type PDES monomer and lignin mass fraction of 6% had the best overall performance, and it could be used in silicon (Si) electrodes to control the volume change problem and obtain good electrochemical properties. The DEPs/lignin composite binder is prepared, which is green, and featured with low cost, simple synthesis process, and excellent performance. It can be applied in the field of new energy lithium batteries and expanding the high value of lignin utilization.
