Feasibility Research of Using Nitrite Solution as a Standard Sample for Potassium Permanganate Consumption Test

Abstract

The work aims to investigate the feasibility of using nitrite solution as a standard sample for potassium permanganate (KMnO4) consumption test in food contact materials. Standard solutions of nitrite were formulated as sample solutions with different concentrations and the KMnO4 consumption was tested according to GB 31604.2-2016. It was found that when the mass concentration of nitrite solutions was in the range of 0.5 mg/L to 20 mg/L, the KMnO4 consumption test results were in high parallelism, and the linear correlation coefficient R2 between nitrite concentration and KMnO4 consumption was as high as 0.999. The theoretical amount of KMnO4 reacted with nitrite was compared with the actual consumption, and the ratio was between 97.7% and 109.5%. There was a little difference between them. The recovery rate of the sample was between 102.8% and 109.2%, which met the internal quality control requirements of the laboratory. Nitrite solution meets the requirements of quality control standard sample for KMnO4 consumption test project. It has great significance for ensuring the accuracy of the test results.
