Current Status Evaluation and Improvement Suggestions of 2D Barcodefor Cigarette Box Packaging

Abstract

The work aims to take the 2D barcode symbol of cigarette box packaging as the research object, and measure and evaluate the current status of six quality parameters, such as code system, data structure, position, color match, dimension and symbol grade according to the standard requirements to define the improvement idea, in order to promote the continuous improvement of quality of printed 2D barcode symbol and lay a foundation for the promotion and application of 2D barcode symbol. According to GB/T23704 method, the code system, data content, version, symbol grade (including 7 optical indexes) of numbered samples were measured by single scan. Then, the dimension of 2D barcode symbol and blank area were measured by electronic digital caliper. Finally, the position and color match of 2D barcode were recognized visually and recorded. The QR code used in 2D barcode of cigarette box packaging had the web address data structure customized by the manufacturer and 6 optional positions in conformity with the standard requirements, but the color match, dimension and symbol grade did not meet the standard requirements completely. The selection and coding of 2D barcodes for cigarette box packaging are in full compliance with the standard requirements. However, the product design and printing process should be optimized according to the actual situation in order to improve the quality and ensure the sustainable application.
