Abstract

The work aims to develop a UV ink with excellent antibacterial property and enhance its application value. The main ingredients of vanilla orchid pods were extracted under the assistance of ultrasonic waves. The extracts were characterized by FT-IR and NMR to confirm that the main component was natural vanillin. Its yield was 18.35%, and its relative content was 33.24%. The prepared vanillin was used as an antibacterial agent. The ink formulation was designed and a UV antibacterial ink was developed. The viscosity, fineness, leveling, curing rate of the ink and the alcohol resistance, flexibility, hardness and antibacterial properties of the ink film after drying were tested. The results showed that when the vanillin was added in an amount of 5.0% (relative to the total mass of the ink), UV antibacterial ink with a viscosity of 4.07 Pa.s, a fineness of 5 μm, with good leveling and curing rate of 150 m/min could be fabricated. After the prepared UV antibacterial ink was roll-coated on the integrated ceiling and dried to form a film, the ink film had an alcohol resistance of level 5. It can be folded at 180° for 5 times without obvious creases, and its hardness was 2H. The antibacterial test found that ink film had an inhibition zone diameter of 21 mm and a bacteriostatic efficiency of 99.20% for Escherichia coli, and an inhibition zone diameter of 23 mm and a bacteriostatic efficiency of 99.26% for Staphylococcus aureus. The developed antibacterial ink could maintain good printability and endow the ink with excellent antibacterial ability.
