Abstract

The work aims to explore the influence of three different organic phase deacidification agents on the inks of aging paper. Offset printing ink samples, neutral ink samples and calligraphy ink samples were prepared and treated manually to achieve accelerated-aging. Deacidification treatments were carried out on aged pages, artificial accelerated aging offset printing ink samples and calligraphy ink samples. After treatment, the optimal deacidification concentrations of the methanol solution of barium hydroxide, diethylene glycol solution of barium hydroxide and formaldehyde solution of magnesium carbonate on the aged paper were 20 g/L, 17 g/L and 10 g/L, respectively. Subjective and objective ink effects of three organic phase deacidification agents were evaluated by high-resolution scanning image observation and color density measurement by spectrophotometer. The evaluation results show that:The ink sample changed slightly after deacidification by barium hydroxide methanol solution. After being treated with magnesium carbonate formaldehyde solution, the ink samples were covered with a layer of magnesium carbonate particles, and the color of the ink became significantly lighter and the color density decreased significantly. The ink color becomes darker and the color density and line width of the ink sample increase after treated with barium hydroxide diethylene glycol deacidification solution. Different deacidification systems have different effects on aging ink samples. This paper provides some references for the comprehensive effect and evaluation of deacidification of ancient books from the perspective of graphic and text information quality.
