Abstract

The work aims to explore a more comfortable auxiliary handling structure of express box for workers' manual operation, and on this basis propose some design recommendations that make the handles more comfortable. A total of 35 subjects were recruited to use four different delivery boxes to perform two manual tasks (lifting, carrying). The maximum acceptable weight of the subjects was tested. And the discomfort of body parts, heart rate and overall preference were recorded. Through the survey method and the physiological measurement instrument measurement method, consumers' subjective evaluation and measurement data of the express box samples with four different types of auxiliary handles were obtained to analyze the physiological load. The results showed that there were no significant differences in heart rate when using the four express boxes in both manual tasks, so did the discomfort in the wrist. The palm discomfort of express box C was significantly higher than that of other samples. In the lifting task, the maximum acceptable weight and overall preference of express box C were the highest. In the carrying task, the maximum acceptable weight and the overall preference of express box B were the highest. Therefore, we have proved that for the load lifting operation, the upper handle is preferred. In carrying work, the lower handle was more friendly to manual work. In addition, providing more room for your hand to easily hold the handle was important for comfort. And smoother and larger contact area can reduce the discomfort of the palm.
