Abstract

The work aims to summarize the research progress of the main synthetic technology of degradable packaging material Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs or PHA), the factors affecting the yield of PHA and the application in packaging industry of PHA. Based on the analysis and summary of the research status and achievements at home and abroad, the main synthetic process of PHA, the influencing factors on the yield of PHA by microbial synthesis and the application of PHA in packaging were introduced. PHA synthesis process, types and concentration of carbon sources, concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus sources, pH value, concentration of dissolved oxygen and temperature had a great impact on the yield of PHA. Different types of carbon sources also made the monomers of PHA different, and the proportion of monomers in PHA was different which formed PHA with different properties. Due to the diversity of PHA performance, it could be widely applied to packaging. Optimizing the synthesis process and influencing factors of PHA can effectively increase the yield of PHA or reduce the production cost of PHA. However, the research on the production of PHA by activated sludge system with real waste as substrate is not deep enough. As a degradable packaging material, PHA has significant development prospects in the field of packaging. Therefore, optimizing the synthesis process and influencing factors of PHA is the focus of attention in the future.
