Abstract
The work aims to substitute the non-degradable BOPP film with water-soluble PVA film as a tape substrate. Tensile strength and elongation at break of PVA film and BOPP film were respectively tested. Tensile strength, elongation at break, initial stickiness and 180° peel strength of PVA and BOPP films applied with water-based pressure sensitive adhesive and of PVA film applied with hot-melt adhesive were tested. The tensile strength of BOPP film was 34.32 N/cm, slightly higher than that of PVA film, but the elongation at break of BOPP film was lower than that of PVA film. The tensile strengths of BOPP tape, PVA hot-melt tape and PVA water-based tape were 48.38, 63.68 and 32.94 N/cm, respectively. The elongation at break of BOPP tape was lower than that of PVA hot-melt and water-based tapes. The initial stickiness of BOPP tape was slightly higher than that of PVA water-based tape. The 180° peel strength of BOPP tape, PVA hot-melt tape and PVA water-based tape were 1.58, 6.48 and 2.63 N/cm, respectively. Compared with BOPP tape, the tensile strength, elongation at break, initial stickiness and 180° peel strength of PVA tape can meet the requirement for mechanical properties of packaging tape.
