The work aims to improve the elongation at break of sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol composite film. The solution casting method was used to prepare series of composite films. The orthogonal design method was adopted to research the influence of sodium alginate (SA)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) ratio, glycerol dosage and ZnO dosage on the tensile strength, elongation at break and other properties of composite film. Glycerol dosage significantly affected the elongation at break of SA/PVA composite film and its effect was greater than that of other two factors. The addition of ZnO and glycerol had made the tensile strength of the composite film decrease substantially. By means of orthogonal design method, it is advantageous to study the influences of various factors on the physical properties of composite film, so as to provide necessary information for further in-depth study on composite films.
