Objective In order to provide some references for the safety control of the inner liner, the production processes and product types were analyzed for their influences on the VOCs and heavy metals of inner liner. Methods Gas chromatography / mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were applied to determine the 18 VOCs and 6 heavy metals in the 9 types of inner liners. Results By measuring and analyzing VOCs and heavy metals in the 9 kinds of inner liner, different product types showed obvious impacts on the VOCs of the inner liner, especially the alcohols, which was more than 2 folds higher in the inner liner (printing) than that in the inner liner (non printing), and the VOCs of the inner liner (printing) increased with the increase of the number of printing colors. Printing ink and auxiliary material had certain effects on heavy metals of the inner liner, and the Cr and Pb in the vacuum aluminum (transfer) inner liner were only about 50% and 10% of those in the vacuum aluminum (direct plating) inner liner. Conclusion Not only the base paper, but the printing ink and auxiliary material also had certain effects on the VOCs and heavy metals of the inner liner.
