The work aims to study the effects of emulsifier system, emulsifier content and emulsifier ratio on the appearance, particle size, water absorption and gelatin of emulsions. With methyl methacrylate (MMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) as hard monomers, ethyl hexyl acrylate (EHA) as soft monomer, and ammonium persulfate (APS) as initiator, the acrylic emulsion was prepared by seeded semi-continuous emulsion polymerization. The synergistic effect of 2 emulsifiers was the best and the properties of the acrylic emulsion prepared were better when the anionic emulsifier sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and the nonionic emulsifier pri-mary alcobol ethoxylate (AEO-9) were used together with the mass fraction of 3% and the mass ratio of SDS/AEO-9 was 2∶1. The acrylic emulsion prepared by compound emulsifiers is more stable under the same experimental conditions.
